Recycling is the third step. It means to transform something useless into something useful again through reprocessing. Recycling saves the need to use fresh materials during product manufacturing.

Top Tips

  • Where to Recycle - Households

    IN WHITEHORSE:

    - City Residential (with garbage/compost pickup): Starting Dec 3, 2025 eligible households with existing garbage and compost pickup (i.e. have a black cart for garbage and a green cart for compost), will receive a new bin for curbside pickup. Please reach out to the City of Whitehorse for more information about this program.

    - City Residential (without garbage/compost pickup): Please take your recycling to the Waste Management Facility on the Alaska Highway, mile 919 or sign-up for Blue Bins Curbside Recycling program.

    - Country Residential: Please continue to take your recycling to the Local Transfer Stations or sign-up for Blue Bins Country Residential program.

    IN COMMUNITIES:
    - For both businesses and households in communities outside of Whitehorse, there are community depots that you can take your recycling, refundables and textiles to. Raven supports community depots as a processor when the material arrives in Whitehorse.

  • Where to Recycle - Businesses

    IN WHITEHORSE:

    - Our PaperSave program is Raven’s commercial pickup service for paper in Whitehorse. We collect white and coloured office paper, newsprint, envelopes, magazines, shredded paper, and other mixed paper. We also collect boxboard and brown paper bags.

    IN COMMUNITIES:
    - If you are a business in the communities, please take all your recyclables to your local depot. We will continue to support communities to process all paper and hard packaging, refundables, glass, and textiles.

  • Recyclean - Means it Must be Clean

Dirty recycling is contaminated recycling, which ends up being trash. To ensure your recycling gets processed, please give it a good rinse with water and soap to ensure all bits of food/oil and dirt are gone. Also be sure to check out our What Can I Recycle and Where Does It All Go? sections so you're on top of all that we can accept. Just because you hope something can be recycled, doesn't mean it will be, call us if you're ever uncertain. Help us, help you, so we can all help the environment.
