Zero Waste challenges you to go plastic free!

Are you up for a challenge?

This summer we challenge you to go plastic-free for the month of July! Sign up online, fill out our survey and get ready to go plastic-free on July 1st! You could win a prize!

How it works:

  • Pledge to not buy any plastic from July 1st to 31st! Be careful – plastic is in more things than you think! Sign up for our Challenge here.

  • Share your email when you sign up! The Zero Waste team will be sending out regular reminders, tips and facts about plastic throughout the month of July.

  • Keep track of any plastics you accidentally purchase. Not because we want you to feel bad about them! But so that we can all learn a little more about how we all use plastic. Find our Plastic Tracker Template here.

  • To complete the challenge, participants must fill out both a pre-challenge survey and a post challenge survey. You will be given access to these after you sign up for the Challenge!

  • Join our other events showcasing plastic waste! (see below)

Complete the Challenge and you could win a Zero Waste prize!*
*Please note that Raven employees and board members are not eligible to win prizes for this event.

Feeling daunted? Don’t worry! The goal isn’t perfection – it’s to learn more about the many ways plastic has infiltrated our lives. In our follow-up survey we’ll be asking what your challenges were so that we can also learn more!

You can also take part in our other events highlighting plastic:

  • June 25th, 7:30pm: Join our film showing of the documentary Plastic People (sponsored by the Yukon Film Society), and join us for a post-film panel with plastic waste researchers, including Sruthee Govindaraj, a scientist specializing in micro-plastic research who participated in a study on microplastics in the Yukon River, and Joie Quarton, who is on the board for Love2Thrift and will be talking about plastic in textiles. Find out more here.

  • July 17 & 18, 4-6pm: Prepare for our Plastic Parade on July 25th! Join artist Nicole Bauberger and Zero Waste Yukon at the YA@W for a creative workshop using waste plastics. Bring clean plastics from home to create a costume, flag or other parade item. Sign up on Eventbrite!

  • July 25th, 5:30-6pm, Raven ReCentre’s booth at the Fireweed Market: Plastic Parade! Join Nicole and Zero Waste with your plastic creations and whatever other bling you want to incorporate and parade around with us!

Want an additional challenge? Collect and keep track of all plastics you purchase for 2 weeks prior to the Pledge! Bring your saved plastics to Nicole Bauberger's workshops in July!
