Listen In Folks - Raven ReCentre will no longer accept paper and packaging starting September

Raven ReCentre just announced its decision to close the free, public paper and packaging drop-off, starting September 15th. Listen in as Executive Director, Heather Ashthorn speaks with Elyn Jones on Yukon Morning about:

  • Why is this decision being Made now?

  • What Services and Programs will still be available?

  • What can the Public Do with their recycling after September 15th?

Here are the highlights:

Q) Why is Raven Recentre moving away from some of its recycling role?

“This is about

moving our community

towards zero waste.

It’s a long coming decision, a very well planned one. We’re moving away from it now because there’s a regulation coming that obligates a funder and management authority for those materials.

We’re happy to report that there will be a robust and solid system for the management of those materials.

Which frees us up to move on to the things that don’t have a management plan yet.“

What We will Still be doing at Raven Recentre:

  • Bottle Depot

  • Metals

  • PaperSave Program

  • E-Waste

  • More emphasis on our Zero Waste Programs (i.e. education programs, events and capacity building)

  • Building other programs - addressing new materials, like:

    • Tool lending

    • Mattresses

    • Glass

  • Expanding our “relatively free store”, Raven Reuseful
